The way cool animals (that didn't eat us..) whew...close one.

So last weekend we trekked to the local animal park. We have an annual pass so for $40 (for both of us) a year we get to spend the day(s) here and in the "comfort" -safety?? of our car. Are you freaking kidding me? I can't even believe this is our life...really. So for most of these shots the animals are about 5-10 feet away.

- So this guy (or rather it's mom) was running across the road the other day. I love our life here. Seriously.

Piglet?

People ask us all the time if we see wild animals where we live like giraffes or elephants. Although those wild beasts live in South Africa they usually aren't roaming free on the roads or in our yard. We have to go to a game reserve. Some times (rarely) we get to see baboons and wart hogs running free, but that is about it. Anyways...so the other day Daniel and I were at the dinning room table and he was facing the window and all of a sudden his head pops up like in an alert kind of way, like something was wrong and he jumps out of his chair and gets the keys and he was off. So I (because he was so quick) get out of my chair and start to look for whatever got his attention and finally find the source of all the commotion. There was a baby pig in our yard. Daniel at this point was already outside trying to catch it...I was getting my shoes on, laughing. I couldn't find the camera...but I got in the chase. We have a really big (5 acre) yard so we were running (Dan more then me) and laughing the whole time. Like really, what would we do with a piglet?? Seriously. So it got away and we came back in the house to finish our conversation at the table. Yup. I love our life in South Africa. Totally random.

El-a-Phant!

Dude, so there we were, all hanging out in the land rover...and all looking for the elephants, and then *poof* there one was. Seriously. We were there and he was there and it was big and we were not. It was the coolest thing ever. Okay, maybe ever...but really cool indeed. So we also saw some way cool other great big giraffes and zebras and you know, those other animals that don't like in the zoos. I am NEVER going to another zoo in my life. So we also hung out with the lion and his cub-lings. So fabulous. In case you are wondering, you are absolutely never, ever, ever allowed to hold a cub if you come to Africa. It gets them all used to people, then they aren't really good for the wild, and so they (the stupid people) release them into "the hunt" where other stupid people come to shoot them. But of course this isn't cool because you don't eat cat. Yeah, that is something we learned from our cute....(Karyne thinks so anyways) safari driver. So that was our day in the wild. Ha ha, we live in AFRICA!
